Emma Hernan has had to defend her relationship with Blake Davis since they offered a glimpse into their dynamic on Selling Sunset.
The real estate agent’s personal life was a major topic of conversation before Selling Sunset returned for season 9 in October 2025. Emma was previously accused by Nicole Young of being with a married man, which she denied in 2024. At the time, Emma confirmed she was in a serious relationship with an unnamed man.
By season 9, Emma’s costar Chrishell Stause made it clear she wasn’t a fan of her then-friend’s boyfriend. The tension was unpacked during the season 9 reunion special where Chrishell accused Blake of using a racial slur and mocking pronouns.
“[You were affected] because of what I wrote or because of what he said and did?” Chrishell asked Emma in the November 2025 episode. “He told me proudly that he openly uses the N-word. He thinks if people are singing the lyrics and they don’t say it then they are too woke.”
Emma denied the claims about Blake, adding, “I don’t think Blake is super appropriate, but what was put online was not how he said it. He never said he was MAGA. He never said his political views. He never said pronouns are stupid. I don’t agree with a ton of things that he does, but he was trying to relate to Chrishell and he wants people to like him.”
That same month, Emma exclusively told Us Weekly about worrying too much about outside opinions on Blake.
“I have enjoyed my time with him and I couldn’t keep worrying about what other people say or who they want me to be with. Ultimately I have to follow my heart and even if I have to learn the hard way, this is somebody that I’m choosing to be with,” she explained. “Everyone can say what they want — or they can either love him or hate him. But ultimately, it’s my choice who I end up with.”
Emma chose not to hide her romance with Blake after filming the reunion.
“A few of the girls were like, ‘If that’s your man, then say that’s your man. Just own it. No one can dictate who you can or can’t be with,’” she continued. “So I decided I am going to be open to this relationship and not be ashamed of my best friend not liking him. If it works, it works and if it doesn’t, it doesn’t. But I don’t want to have any regrets that I cared what other people thought when I did enjoy my time with him.”

September 2024

After production on season 8 wrapped, Chrishell hinted at Emma’s boyfriend, who was out of the spotlight at the time.
“These days of filming didn’t make it into season 8 of #SellingSunset so I can post them now,” Chrishell wrote via Instagram in September 2024. “A scene where Emma introduced us to who she actually WAS dating. This was pretty funny bc I didn’t like him. So maybe it’s for the best 😆😅.”
December 2024

Emma later told Us that she filmed with Blake — only for it to not air.
“He went and filmed and put himself out there as well, and they cut everything,” she shared. “There’s a few scenes where I have a bite mark on my arm, and they try to play it like they don’t know who it is. But we all know who it is. There’s a few scenes that if you go back in the season and kind of pay attention to what they did now, it’s super messed-up.”
Emma continued: “I have been super private about my relationships my entire life. Even before the show, I’ve always been a private person when it comes to relationships. But producers came to me and they said that they really wanted to see my love life and who I’m dating. I opened up my life, and what happened was the complete opposite from what we filmed.”
Despite feeling frustrated by Blake’s exclusion in season 8, Emma explained why she wanted to film with him.
“[My boyfriend is] definitely more reserved. But he was very supportive of whatever I wanted. He did film, and we looked at a couple properties together on screen. But ultimately, he was pretty disappointed with what they did to me, which my family was as well,” she added about footage from season 8 that was cut. “He had messaged me prior to the show, so we had been friends for quite some time, and then we met last December. He’s very close with my family, so that was something that was lacking in my prior relationship and something that I’m fortunate about and grateful for in this one.”

July 2025

October 2025

Season 9 introduced Blake when he joined Chrishell, Emma and Chelsea Lazkani for lunch. Chrishell was not thrilled by an interaction where Blake claimed he never tried a vegetable or fruit in his life — warning Emma she would have to “mother” him.
As the season continued, Chrishell expressed more of her worries as Emma considered getting engaged to Blake.
November 2025

While addressing the drama from season 9, Emma defended her connection with Blake.
“Who hasn’t dated a guy that your family or friends don’t agree with? I am human and I have feelings. Unfortunately, I made a connection with someone who isn’t the most likable person. There was a conversation that needed to be had,” Emma explained to her costars. “He doesn’t always behave, so that is why I take distance a lot.”
She continued: “There have been multiple times where I haven’t spoken to him for two to three months at a time — like, completely ghost. At that moment, I feel like I will never speak to him again and then they will be able to see that I am with him. There’s a bond there. I am not saying he is the person I am going to marry. But I have had three boyfriends and he is the third.”
Emma also spoke to Us about choosing to focus on the positive — starting with her relationship.
“I would definitely move to the East Coast [with him]. He would need to propose for me to do that,” she quipped. “He has not [proposed yet]. I put my whole life out there this season. I really wanted the audience to just see me and who I am and being vulnerable and seeing the real relationship that I was in.”
