Days of Our Lives had Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) shock family and friends when she blazed into town and announced her recent engagement to Dante Vitali (Dominic Zamprogna). But will they make it to the “I do” stage? And is this mobbed-up guy the worst one that Sami’s been with?
We’re going to talk about some of Sami Brady’s worst romantic decisions, about sketchy men she’s gotten engaged to, and some she even married.
Days of Our Lives: Sami Shocks Everyone
So, Lucas Horton (Bryan Dattilo) and some of the other exes were stunned when Hurricane Sami dropped the bombshell that she is getting hitched again, this time to some unknown Italian stallion by the name of Dante Vitali. And yeah, he’s from the same Vitali family with mob ties in Philly that’s related to Ava Vitali (Tamara Braun), who is a notorious bad girl in her own right.
By the way, the actress who played Ava, Tamara Braun, is over on Y&R right now. So is Billy Flynn, and so is Lucas Adams. You know that Lucas Adams played Tamara Braun’s son over here on Days of Our Lives, but over on Young and the Restless, they’re lovers. It’s really weird if you watch Days and also watch Y&R to watch them making out.
All right, so I digress. Sami only stayed in Salem a short while, just long enough to host a baby shower for Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman) and her daughter-in-law Chanel Dupree (Raven Bowens), and to be there to see her stepdad, John Black (Drake Hogestyn), honored for his generous bequest to University Hospital that was announced at the benefit gala for the Horton Free Clinic. And then Dante called Sami (Alison Sweeney) and surprised her with a fancy engagement trip. So Sami (Alison Sweeney) packed her bags and left Salem. She’s already gone.
Salem’s Exes React to Sami’s Shocking New Engagement on DOOL
This week on Days, three of her exes—EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel), Lucas, and Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering)—have a little chat at the pub about their mutual ex. Lucas asks Rafe if Sami is trying to get under their skin by announcing her newest fiancé. Ex-hubby EJ is listening from nearby. And if you remember, Sami rubbed it in Lucas’ face that they would never be besties again after the whole kidnapping thing. But Lucas was happy that Sami forgave him.
Then she had a talk with Rafe. They discussed how they’d always love each other. It actually sounded like Sami and Rafe were trying to rekindle their relationship offscreen not long ago. And we didn’t ever see it. They just talked about how it didn’t work out. Sami didn’t want to settle down in Salem. And Rafe didn’t want to leave his family and go to Italy.
Sami (Alison Sweeney) also made an effort to check in with EJ and reminded him to stay away from Johnny and his newly adopted baby. And Sami told her sister, Belle Black (Martha Madison) that she’s glad she figured out EJ’s true nature before they got too involved. Sami doesn’t want EJ, but we also know she doesn’t want her sister Belle, to have him either.
Their mother, Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall), was a little concerned when she found out Sami was engaged to Dante after only dating for two months. I mean, given what Marlena knows about troublesome Sami, this is not out of the ordinary. And longtime watchers know this isn’t a new thing for her to get involved this quickly.
A Look Back at Sami Brady’s Most Disastrous Engagements and Marriages on Days of Our Lives
Sami has had many engagements and several halted weddings over the years, some that ended in bloodshed. We’re going to talk real quick about the worst ones in honor of the new bad choice that Sami seems to be making. So, here are the ones that made our bad list.
First was an engagement to Austin Reed. This was the late 90s, after she aggressively pursued him and stole him from her sister, Carrie Brady. But Sami and Austin’s wedding went down in flames when Carrie exposed Sami’s lies about Will Horton’s (Chandler Massey) paternity. Turns out Austin wasn’t his dad. Lucas was. Sami did in the end have a couple of short marriages to Austin, but they both ended in annulment on Days of our Lives.
In 1998, another hot mess: Sami was briefly engaged to Franco Kelly. He was after a green card, but Lucas killed the groom. And Franco’s death wound up pinned on Sami. She sat on death row and was nearly executed until she was exonerated. That has to make the list of very bad romantic decisions, not that the murder was her fault.
Then in the early 2000s, if you remember, Sami got engaged to Brandon Walker. They had been lovers for years, and Sami and Brandon did have a short marriage, but it got annulled over a falsified paternity test and Sami’s lies about his affair with Lexi Carver (Renee Jones).
Sami’s Tumultuous Romances with Lucas Horton and EJ DiMera on DOOL
So, Lucas was the next guy Sami (Alison Sweeney) almost tied the knot with. She reconnected with Lucas after the split with Brandon. But Lucas’ mom, Kate Roberts (Lauren Koslow), exposed Sami and her antics when she dressed up as a guy. Do you remember that? Kate exposed this to protect Lucas, and Sami was going around dressed up as this guy named Stan, which was very weird.
That ended the almost-marriage between Lucas and Sami and marks a really weird point in her history. They had a guy playing the part of Sami (Alison Sweeney) playing a man while Alison Sweeney was out on maternity leave. It was very strange.
So then she rekindled things with Austin. But luckily, that engagement ended quickly when he found out Sami blackmailed Lexi about Carrie’s fertility issues. And then Hurricane Sami struck again with a second engagement to Lucas and a brief marriage between them. And that was in 2007. Sami and Lucas had all this family drama, custody battles, and then yeah, another annulment when Sami chose EJ to end the Brady-DiMera feuding.
If you remember, Sami’s first marriage to EJ was a total sham. And this was all around the time when she got pregnant with her twins, Johnny and Allie Horton (Lindsay Arnold) – one fathered by Lucas, one fathered by EJ. And it wasn’t until this past summer that Johnny found out that EJ blackmailed Sami into sleeping with him, resulting in his conception, which was basically rape. So, Sami and EJ’s 2007 wedding was interrupted by Lucas shooting EJ. If my count is right, that’s two Sami weddings where Lucas shot the groom and then, of course, one where he kidnapped the bride.

From Witness Protection to Resurrection: Sami’s Later Days Marriages
Surprise, three years later, EJ and Sami got together again. They had been on-again, off-again lovers that whole time, but EJ’s engagement to Sami was very short-lived. Thanks to kidnappings and affairs, they never made it to the altar. And that same year, while in witness protection, Sami fell in love with Rafe. But Sami was also being kind of sneaky because by marrying hot FBI agent Rafe, he couldn’t testify against her.
So, they got hitched after Sami shot EJ. And I think at this point on Days, EJ is the human equivalent of Swiss cheese because he has been shot so much. There should be so many holes through him. Rafe and Sami split a couple of years later when Rafe found out Sami was cheating with, guess who? EJ. And Sami (Alison Sweeney) then had another engagement with EJ. This time they had a big reconciliation after his affair with Abigail Deveraux (AnnaLynne McCord).
Another Sami/EJ Wedding on Days of Our Lives
And then Sami and EJ married for a second time in 2014. That ended when Clyde Weston’s (James Read) goon shot EJ and left him for dead. But the marriage resumed after Elvis Junior’s comeback special, The Resurrection. But then things fell apart again. As for Lucas, if it wasn’t for his insecurities about Sami and EJ, he might never have kidnapped Sami in the first place, and that wedding could have happened. That was her most recent engagement.
And of course, it fell apart at the altar when Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) burst in and dropped the truth bomb. And so now we have Sami likely making a new mistake with her latest fiancé, Dante Vitali. Can this relationship survive Hurricane Sami? Maybe. As for her worst engagement, there are several that were so toxic, it’s kind of hard to say, but I do think EJ might be Sami’s favorite mistake.
